Jared Altman
ABOUT THE ATTORNEY
Jared Altman has been practicing law for over thirty-five years and is thoroughly experienced in several fields. He applies his wealth of practical, hands-on expertise to pursue the best possible outcome in every matter he handles.
From working in a District Attorney’s Office, a not-for-profit handling Social Security Disability appeals, as a Manhattan-based trial attorney for the world’s oldest and largest insurance company, co-founding the expanding litigation department of a Manhattan law firm and throughout private practice in New York City and the greater Hudson Valley, Mr. Altman has always fought aggressively for his clients whatever the odds.
He entered the litigation field after graduating with distinction from Hofstra University Law School in 1981. He handled cases involving automobiles, buses, subways, faulty premises, floors, stairways, sidewalks, escalators and elevators, false arrests, infant’s claims, explosions, burns, animal bites and much more.
Not long afterwards a law firm he litigated against recruited him to try cases for the world’s oldest and largest insurance company. He defended the company’s insureds against all kinds of claims, from falls and auto accidents to complex construction accidents and major water damage cases, including appellate work.
He also represented the company itself in both State and Federal courts in cases involving asbestos, subrogation, arbitration and declaratory actions. He ascended to Senior New York City Trial Attorney assigned primarily to the Manhattan Supreme Court.
A colleague then invited Mr. Altman to join the fledgling litigation department in one of New York’s preeminent real estate firms, whose practice swelled on the condominium and cooperative conversion craze of the eighties. He immediately stepped into complex real estate cases and co-founded the firm’s personal injury practice.
He dealt with accidents and personal injuries, medical malpractice, shareholder derivative claims, board election challenges, residential and commercial landlord and tenant proceedings, regulatory hearings, and much more. He ultimately came to lead the litigation department as the Senior Litigation Partner.
During this period, Mr. Altman acquired expertise in residential and commercial real estate closings and leasing. He was also thrust into international matters in Great Britain and Canada and also involving several U.S. states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
He assisted one of the partners, a renowned criminal attorney, to defend various criminal matters such as assault, conspiracy and grand larceny. He also handled some estate planning and administration.
Mr. Altman began shifting his practice closer to home in the mid-nineties to serve the Hudson Valley while remaining active downstate. He established a full-time office in Peekskill and re-located to Montrose not long after, both located in Westchester County. He established a second office in East Fishkill several years ago.
Jared Altman is now a well-seasoned attorney and handles mostly select and serious personal injury cases, medical malpractice and wrongful death claims, residential and commercial real estate closings, real estate litigation, landlord and tenant proceedings, criminal law, especially DWI/DUI, and select civil and commercial litigation.
Mr. Altman offers free telephone consultations in any matter and there is no attorney fee until you recover in personal injury, accident, medical malpractice and wrongful death claims.
